Talk on Relevance of Bhagavad Gita in Today’s Life and Bhagavad Gita as Human Psychology - By: Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, Singapore
Gita Jayanti an annual event organised by International Gita Forum, Singapore was held on 22nd October, 2017 at the PGP Kalyana Mantapa of Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Singapore. His Excellency Sri Javed Ashraf, High Commissioner of India to Singapore was the Key Note Speaker and Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt on his first ever visit to the Lion City, Singapore addressed the gathering on the relevance of Bhagavad Gita in today’s life and Bhagavad Gita as Human Psychology.
Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji was received at the Shri Srinivasa Perumal temple by its Vice chairman Shri Somasekaran, Shri Raja Segar CEO of Hindu Endowments Board amongst others, with temple honours and taken around the temple
Gita Jayanti program started at 10 AM in the august presence of Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt, H.E. Shri Javed Ashraf, High commissioner of India, Shri R. Jayachandran, Chairman of Hindu endowments Board, Shri Rajan Krishnan, Chairman of Hindu Advisory Board, Indian community members Shri Janardhana Bhat, Shri Vijaya Ranga, President of Kannada Sangha Singapore, Shri Raghav Putti, Shri Suresh Karanth and others.
The program started with a prayer and welcome address by Shri Abdhesh Prasad who elucidated essence of Gita and its relevance across religions.
H.E Shri Javed Ashraf in his keynote address spoke about Bhagavad Gita and audience was spell bound with his knowledge of Bhagavad Gita
Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji in his address on the first subject – relevance of Gita in today’s life talked about the hectic material life of today and how Lord Krishna’s advice to Arjuna in the form of therapy conditioning him to the need for the war is still valid in today’s context. Swamiji also presented H.E. Shri Javed Ashraf High Commissioner of India with Shawl and garland.
In the afternoon Swamiji handed over prizes to children who participated and won prizes in the art competition held on the occasion of Gita Forum
Afternoon session continued on the 2nd topic of the day – Bhagavad Gita as Human Psychology. Swamiji explained as to why the current generation has no respect for the elders, the difference in upbringing of earlier generations where children were never praised in front of them even though they achieved excellence in studies etc and the current generation where the child is treated as the centre of the parents life and every achievement of the child is amplified to an extent that the child starts developing ego at an early age. Audience felt blessed with the clarity of thought on Bhagavad-Gita provided by Swamiji by way of examples of current materialistic world.Swamiji also took written questions from the audience and answered them.
